The Construction Futures project is funded by Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations DEEWR under the Employer Brokers Program to Lend Lease Limited.  Skilling & Employment, a community initiative of Lend Lease has an office at 51 Phillip Street, St. Marys, where the Trades Employment Advisor has an office base.  The Project has employed a trade qualified Advisor, Greg Martin, who will work directly with subcontractors and suppliers.  Work is linked to the residential building industry in the Sydney West & Blue Mountains  Employment Priority Area to identify  employers skill needs.  The Advisor will link employers with employment service providers and training organisations to secure employment for job seekers and skill development for job seekers, existing workers, labourers without formal qualifications and transition options for workers made redundant through industry adjustment.

Job Outcomes

As at the end of November 2011 the Skilling and Employment Centre had assisted jobseekers into 2532 jobs and 377 training programs.

SKILLS RECOGNITION

The Centre has recently run several focus groups to facilitate use of the new online self evaluation tool.  this FREE website assist individuals to recognise their existing skills, understand recognition of prior learning - (RPL), explore vocational training options, and find Registered Training Organisations.  Go to website - skillsrecognition.nsw.gov.au

Colyton High School, School Based Apprenticeships

Ropes Crossing Skilling & Employment has been active promoting school based apprenticeships in the construction trades to local employers.  As a result a number of students have undertaken School Based Apprenticeships in 2007 and 2008.  The Centre continues to have an active association with Colyton Trade School High School.

Community Bus - Volunteer as a Driver

Ropes Crossing has its own Community Bus to help local residents access community services and facilities. The 21 seat Community Bus is a joint initiative between Ropes Crossing and the Blacktown City Council and is available for use now by local community group. We're looking for volunteer bus drivers who have a light rigid licence and would like to become involved in their local community.

Bookings have come from many different community groups, such as, the local North Mt Druitt Scouts as well as local Community Trade Schools.
